Match Reports:
22nd May
SBCC 130-2
Portishead 92-8
A wet and dark evening at Coombe Dingle saw the U15’s put in a great performance to beat Portishead comprehensively and move into the next round.
SB batted first with Vishnu Shastri and Tom Pearce putting on 82 in 14 overs. The conditions were difficult with a wet out field and long boundaries. They batted well and took quick singles intelligently. There was then some big hitting from Ollie King Sorrell which took us to 130-2.
We bowled and fielded well considering a damp uneven outfield. All the bowlers bowled well and James Cooley took 2 wickets in 2 balls on his U15 debut. Tom Chandler held onto a sizzling catch.
SBCC 130-2 Shastri 45, Pearce 32 King-Sorrell 32.
Portishead 92-8 Bewley 9-2, Pearce 16-2, Cooley 16-2, Kelleher 15-1, Patel 4-1
4th June
SBCC 110-4
Portishead 111-6
We were just pipped on the last ball of the last over by Bedminster U15A in the Bristol District semi final of the National Cup last night.
We batted first and made 110-4 with the top four batsman all making runs against a good Bedminster attack. Tom Pearce played some fluid crisp strokes and Alex Davis hit a couple of big sixes. The leg spin of J Brimble was particularly impressive causing us much trouble and he turned in figures of 1-10 in 4 overs.
They were well pin downed initially but then accelerated on needing only 12 off the last 3 overs. Their number 3 batsman Fillingham had to retire on 53 not out (competition rules which Nick Davis was quick to pounce upon) and they really struggled to make the runs reaching them with the last ball of the last over.
It has been that sort of season with us, losing games at the death but the lads should be proud of their efforts in the competition. Their was some great fielding (superb run out by Vishnu) and the team fought until the end.
We can now concentrate on the league and try to finish as high as we can.
SB 110-4 in 20 Tom Pearce 28, Alex Davis 22 in 20 overs
Bedminster 111-6 in 20 overs
